Description: The Leibovitz L-15 media were formulated to promote the cell growth in medium not balanced in CO₂. The formulations were developed with the sodium bicarbonate buffer. The Leibovitz L-15 media are buffered by a complement of salts, free base amino acids and galactose so they can be used under conditions of free gaseous exchange with the atmosphere. When properly supplemented, L-15 Medium supports established cell lines, such as HEp-2 and LLC-MK2, as well as primary explants of embryonic and adult human tissue. Many viruses also have been successfully cultivated in this medium.

Description: These irrigating buffers and salt solutions are sterile, physiological balanced solutions intended for use in the maintenance of mammalian cells, where a chemically defined, balanced salt solution provides an environment that will maintain the structural and physiological integrity of cells <i>in vitro</i>. Applications include the intermediate steps for cultivation of cells, like washing, centrifugation, suspending and counting, as well as for many analytical methods or biochemical treatments. Principally these solutions should be used to keep the cells in suspension only for minutes or a few hours maximum. These buffers and solutions are not cell culture media.

Description: Versene can be used instead of trypsin. It is a chelating agent that disperses the cells by cutting the cytoplasmic bridges between them. Versene has the advantage of being able to withstand autoclave temperature, which is a guarantee of sterility. Description: In 1976, Guilbert and Iscove demonstrated that precursor cells of erythrocytes and macrophages could be cultured in a reduced-serum medium supplemented with albumin, transferrin, lecithin, and selenium. Iscove's medium is a modification of Dulbecco's Modified Eagle's Medium (DME) containing selenium, additional amino acids and vitamins, sodium pyruvate, HEPES buffer, and potassium nitrate instead of ferric nitrate. Further studies have demonstrated that Iscove's medium will support murine B lymphocytes, haemopoietic tissue from bone marrow, B-cells stimulated with lipopolysaccharide, T-lymphocytes, and a variety of hybrid cells.
