Used in electrophoresis and as a hapten carrier. Most commonly used to prepare density gradients. A nonionic synthetic polymer of sucrose.
- Ficoll® has been used in
- Isolation of cord blood mononuclear cells
- Isolation of CD133 negative cells
- Isolation and expansion of circulating endothelial progenitor cells
Ficoll® Solution is a highly branched polymer of sucrose, also known as polydisperse mixtures of dextran. Ficoll® molecules are inert and not re-absorbed by proximal tubules. The structure is open and deformable, and not a rigid sphere thereby becoming a preferred choice in 'crowding' experiments.
