Methylation with TMSH is recommended for free acids, chlorophenoxycarboxylic acids, their salts and derivatives as well as for phenols and chlorophenols. Lipids or triglycerides can be converted to the corresponding fatty acid methyl esters (FAMEs) by a simple transesterification.
- Methylation derivatives are generally stable
- Wide range of reaction conditions (strongly acidic - strongly basic)
- Some reactions can be achieved with water present
- A removal of excess TMSH reagent is not required, due to a pyrolysis in the GC injector at 250 °C
Concentration: 0.2 M in methanol
